Retaining Walls in Clintonville, Ohio » Small Space Makeover

$50,000 Budget

The backyard was overgrown, outdated, and left little room to get through to the back door. We started this Clintonville project by removing the existing concrete steps, decking, and a wooden bench.

The small nature of the yard posed drainage issues for the client, leaving no where for the water to dissipate to. With the addition of a completely new paver patio, we addressed the drainage issue by adding a permeable aggregate under the brick pavers, in the 12 x 12 problem area, this space now allows the water to pass through the surface instead of pooling on top. This allowed the homeowner to use the space that was once an eyesore for additional seating and entertaining.

In addition to the entirely new patio space, the project included a custom cedar bench, poured concrete steps, and landscaping lighting. We added a wide ledge to outline the built-in flower beds, leaving plenty of room for potted plants to be put on display. Across the other side a stone seating wall replaced the old wooden wrap around bench bringing balance to the space. The wall also helps to separate the detached garage from the space. A water feature was added to bring calming sounds to the busy neighborhood.
