Though small in nature this backyard now provides a fully functional space that gives the homeowners exactly what they were looking for – an inviting space for friends and family to gather for good conversation. Using two color Beacon Hill pavers in granite fusion and blue, to lay out this 420 square foot patio, gives the area more visual interest and appeal. Basalt Copthorne pavers laid in a sailor course add contrast around the perimeter of the patio and fire feature.

Rivercrest prefab fire and wall system from Unilock gave the look of natural stone with the durability, affordability, and ease of installation of manufactured concrete. The organic curvature of the bench invites friends to sit and interact within a more intimate space creating a feeling of togetherness.

The patio was pushed away from the backside of the house and curved to the left to accommodate home utilities, A/C and HVAC unit running along the back and to save the locust tree directly outside the patio door. Homeowners wanted a grill placed close to the patio doors outside the kitchen for convenience and out of the way placement.

Peeking through existing burning bushes that lead from the side yard to the backyard, flagstone steppers connect green space with patio. Viburnum were added for height creeping over the seating bench. Using lighting in multiple ways with spotlight on trees, lights near entrances and exists around the patio, cap lights on steps and bench, and the light of fire creating a warm ambiance throughout the intimate backyard space.
